Emergency maintenance is a type of maintenance needed when a homeowner/renter is experiencing an unexpected water malfunction causing serious problems. The problem has to be addressed as soon as possible, hence the “emergency”.
For example, call the Emergency number when;
Your basement is filling with water and you haven’t any means of shutting the water off in the house; you cannot locate the main water valve; or the valve has seized making it impossible to turn the water off. Then by all means call the Emergency Maintenance number to have a Town staff member turn the water off at the curb.
Please do not call the emergency number if you have a sewer back up. This is not considered an emergency for Town staff, but rather call a sewer service or plumber to deal with the matter.
The Town requests that ratepayers submit water meter readings at least 4X per year. The prescribed water meter reading months are January, April, July & October. The ideal window of opportunity for taking a reading is from the 27th day to the last day of the month; however, we will never refuse a meter reading at any time.
